Brethren::
As we all continue to dig out from this
onslaught of snow Mother Nature has piled upon us, I want to share with you a
few things that really spoke to me and let me know I had made the right choice
when joining Howard Lodge No. 101. I live in an area of Halethorpe that for
some reason Baltimore County has deemed unworthy for timely snow removal. The
snow had not even finished falling when my cell phone starting ringing with
calls from my brothers at the lodge giving me updates as to the conditions at
the lodge and offering their assistance to either shovel snow, bring snow
blowers, or help effect repairs caused by this unprecedented snow storm.
Because the excessive snow made my streets impassable, I was unable to perform
a Masonic memorial service for the family of a departed brother. Once again my
brethren came to my rescue. Two Past Masters along with another brother, made
it to the funeral home to perform the service and honor our departed brother. This
willingness of everyone in the lodge, from the our Entered Apprentices to our
Past Masters, to reach out in times of need and help the lodge, serve as an
inspiration and a constant reminder of what Masonry is all about: “Service to
God, to a Brother, and to all Mankind.” We as a fraternity need to be proactive
and not reactive in these issues of service. We need to inspire each other and
the members of the community we share with our willingness to serve. I
challenge you brethren who have not been to the lodge in some time to renew
your commitment to Masonry and to come share in the rewarding fellowship we
have at Howard Lodge No. 101 every Monday night (not to mention the incredible
dinners we’ve been sharing.) I know with your help we can make Howard Lodge a
better place for our fraternity and a shining light in the community.

CHAPLAIN’S MESSAGE
Brethren:
With the cold, dreary days of winter coming to a close, and
spring once again bringing its sense of renewal to the planet, I am reminded
that by our belief in the immortality of the soul, we as Masons are also
destined for a renewal of sorts. As we all must succumb to the winter of our
mortal lives, remember we are only beginning the spring of our immortal soul.
The Supreme Architect of the Universe has seen fit to bless us all with this
great gift and by it we are renewed so we may abide with him in that
all-perfect, grand and Celestial Lodge above. When we think of our departed
Brothers who have passed into that Lodge above, let us not be saddened by their
passing from the winter of this world, but rather be inspired and gladdened
that they are passing into the replenished spring of their immortal souls. As
always, please remember to keep in your prayers the members of our armed forces
who risk their lives to make ours better, and reach out to help our afflicted
brothers and their families when they are in need.
Fraternally,
ROBERT T. TURNER, P.M. Chaplain
